Elon University is a private university in Elon, North Carolina. It was founded in 1889 as Elon College by the Christian Connection, which later became part of the United Church of Christ. 

The original student body consisted of 76 students and William S. Long was the first president. Elon University is organized into six schools: Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences; the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business; the School of Communications; the Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education; the School of Law; and the School of Health Sciences.

Elon University scholarships

Elon University offers a variety of merit-based, talent-based, need-based, and exceptional need- and merit-based scholarships. Merit-based scholarships range from $7,500 to full tuition annually, while Elon Engagement Scholarships are $5,000 annually and renewable each year pending acceptable academic performance. Fellows Programs offer up to $13,500 annually and other benefits such as Global Study grants and special courses.

Need-based scholarships are available to qualified Elon students, with funds provided directly by Elon as well as through donations and gifts from individuals, businesses, and foundations. These include North Carolina Need-Based Scholarships determined by the NC State Educational Assistance Authority based on financial need, North Carolina, Maryland & Vermont State Grants for residents of these states, and Elon University Grants based solely on financial need.

Students can also search for external scholarships through their high school guidance counselors or online guidebooks to scholarships from foundations to corporations and government agencies

Elon University scholarship requirements

Elon University offers several scholarships to students. Presidential Scholarships range from $11,000 to full tuition annually and require a 3.5 GPADean‘s Scholarships range from $7,500 to $10,500 annually and require a 3.3 GPA. 

Leadership Scholarships range from $3,000 up to $7,000 annually and are awarded based on demonstrated strong academic achievement, campus and civically engaged leadership, and promise to become highly effective higher education professionals. The Phoenix Band Scholarship is a talent-based scholarship that provides $5,000 annually to musically strong students who have a passion for instrumental music.

Elon University also offers the Odyssey Program scholarship which provides additional financial, academic, social and mentoring/advising support to ensure students have the opportunity to fully participate in Elon’s many experiences. Scholarship recipients are expected to contribute to the intellectual and social climate of the university through active campus citizenship. Approximately 45 awards are available through the program ranging from $5,000 to $25,000. All Odyssey Program scholars receive a financial aid package that meets full demonstrated financial need as well as a $4,000 Global Study grant which may be used for a university-approved study abroad or Study USA experience.

To be considered for an Odyssey Program scholarship or any other program scholarship at Elon University, students must complete the Odyssey Program application by January 17th of each year and submit their FAFSA and CSS Profile as soon as possible after October 1st of each year.
