Pace moved to Houston from Chickasha, Oklahoma. He visited Klein High School with Matt Bomer. Before graduating high school, Pace briefly acted at Houston’s Alley Theatre. After that, he performed in plays at Juilliard’s Drama Division. He earned a BFA from Juilliard.

After graduating, Lee performed in off-Broadway plays like The Fourth Sister and The Credeaux Canvas. He was nominated for a Lucille Lortel Award for Small Tragedy. He received another Guardians nomination in 2006. Pace’s Broadway debut, The Normal Heart, ran for 96 performances.
