The Ohio State University (OSU) is a public land-grant research university in Columbus, Ohio. 

It was founded in 1870 as the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College under the Morrill Act of 1862. It has since become one of six universities in Ohio among the Association of American Universities

OSU offers over 200 undergraduate majors across its colleges and schools, including engineering, business administration, education, humanities and social sciences, nursing, medicine, pharmacy, law, and more. 

In addition to academic programs offered at OSU’s main campus in Columbus, several satellite campuses are located throughout Ohio.

 These include Lima (1960), Mansfield (1958), Marion (1957), and Newark (1957). The Buckeyes athletic teams compete in NCAA Division I sports such as football, basketball, baseball, and lacrosse

Ohio State University tuition is $11,936 for in-state students and $35,019 for out-of-state students. 

The university has a Tuition Guarantee program which allows returning undergraduate students from Ohio to pay the same amount as they did last year due to the university’s participation in the program. In 2021-22, the total cost per year for new undergraduates was $12,485; in 2020-21 it was $10,615 per year for in-state residents. 

Out-of-state students who don’t have Ohio residence can expect an estimated total tuition, fees, and living expense price of $28,664 for the 2020/2021 academic year.

Ohio State University financial aid

Ohio State University offers a variety of financial aid options for students, including scholarships and grants, federal student loans, work-study programs, and athletics aid administration. 

The average cost of attendance at the Columbus Campus is $18,706 after scholarships and grants, with 43% of students receiving financial aid and an average aid package of $10,456. Students can apply for financial aid online through My Buckeye Link or by visiting the Student Financial Aid office in person.

Ohio State University scholarships

Ohio State University offers a variety of scholarships for students, including merit-based awards, partial scholarships, and full-ride programs such as the Eminence Fellows Program and Land Grant Opportunity Scholarship. Merit-based awards range from $1,000 to $3,000 per year ($4,000 to $12,000 four-year value), while partial scholarships can be up to $6,825 per year. The Eminence Fellows Program is an academic scholarship that covers the entire cost of attendance at Ohio State for eight semesters of full-time enrollment plus an enrichment program. 

Partial scholarships are available through Maximus, Provost and Trustees Scholarships or National Buckeye Scholarship for non-Ohio residents. Additionally, there are other international scholarships offered by organizations such as AMIDEASTUS Federal Government, HKADC Overseas Arts Administration Scholarships, Cherokee Scholars Scholarship 2022, Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program 2021 and more.

Ohio State University offers a range of grants and scholarships for undergraduate students, including the Robertson Scholars Leadership Program 2022, Kiel University Exchange ScholarshipsOhio College Opportunity Grantand Second Chance Grant Program. 

Additionally, there are other international scholarships, fellowships, and grants offered by US Federal Government such as IAL Research Grants For Doctoral Studies, HKADC Overseas Arts Administration Scholarships, Cherokee Scholars Scholarship 2022, Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program 2021, and Fulbright Foreign Student Program For Kosovo, 2020. 

The Office of International Affairs also funds grants and scholarships that are made available to faculty, graduate, and professional students at The Ohio State University. These grant programs serve to promote international educational opportunities that will have a lasting impact on increasing global awareness and understanding.

OSU acceptance rate

The Ohio State University has an acceptance rate of 57%, with half the applicants admitted having an SAT score between 1250 and 1440 or an ACT score of 26 and 32 This makes it moderately selective, as only 54 out of every 100 applicants are accepted. In Fall 2020, over 47,700 college applications were submitted to this university, making it one of the most competitive universities in the US. Ohio State University has an acceptance rate of 53.7%, with the average SAT score being 1210-1430 and the average ACT score being 26-32. The university considers various factors when reviewing applications, including GPA (3.76 or higher), SAT scores (1210/1430 or above), ACT scores (26/27), extracurricular activities, and personal statements. Students who have taken several Advanced Placement (AP) classes are also considered for admission

OSU campus life

The Ohio State University (OSU) offers a variety of activities for students to get involved in, including on-campus housing, trips and activities, cultural centers, student government, and the OSU Marching Band

Students can also take advantage of free health services at the Student Union or visit one of the six residence halls that call the campus home. 

Additionally, there are nearly 2 miles of campus trails with HealthLine workout stations and a 9 hole Disc Golf course open to all users. Campus safety is high according to US News Best Colleges rankings


Applicants who have earned a cumulative 2.5 or better from all colleges and universities attended are typically competitive for admission to the Columbus campus
