Students can submit supporting documents, check the status of their academic applications, financial aid applications, housing statuses, and personal information through the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (Wits) Student Self-Service Portal.
Also, students can examine and edit their personal information, check the progress of their applications, access and print their fee statements, view final test results, an examination schedule, and graduation dates.
- Candidates: Your password is your birthdate in (YYMMDD) format, for example, 861224.

Wits University Quick Guide to Start Online Registration
Here is a brief walkthrough of the online registration process. Before beginning, make sure you have permission to register:
Before registering online, new applicants must accept the offer made by their firm. Before you accept your Firm Offer, please make sure that the Student Enrollment Center has received the necessary certified copies of your academic credentials. This stipulation would apply to applicants who upload their academic credentials via the Student Self-Service Portal. Wits Student Portal
- Self-funded students must pay the first fee installment before they may register. If you are unable to make payment before registration, you may apply to postpone the first fee payment on the Self-Service portal and may then proceed immediately with Online Registration.
- Sponsored students can upload their letters online on the student Self-Service portal under financial aid. Students will be cleared online for registration and no manual letters will be accepted.
- International students must be cleared by the International Students Office and pay 75% of the annual tuition fee and other related costs, as well as the on-campus accommodation fee on or before registration.
Students with historical debt must consult with the Fees Office in advance. If you are not cleared for registration, you will receive a message on the Self-Service Portal when you try register. Wits Student Portal
How to Register for Online Courses via Wits Student Self-Service Portal
Check your faculty’s registration deadlines to get started, then log in to the university’s student self service site.
- Login to Wits University Student Self-Service Portal (https://self-service.wits.ac.za)
- Tap on the Register Online tile or Academic Information tile
- Complete the medical aid and Tap the Next button to continue
- Complete the Financial Declaration section
- Accept the term and conditions
- Tap Apply to Proceed
- Verify your details
- Tap on the “Register Online“
Well done!!! continue with the fixed or flexible curriculum.
Fixed Curriculum:
- Select Courses & Slots
- Tap “Validate”
- Tap “Enroll”
- Accept Terms & Conditions

Flexible Curriculum:
- Tap on “Choices”
- Select “Courses”

Proof of Online Course Registration Wits Student Portal
You are now registered. To send the Proof of Registration to your email:
- Access the Academic Information tab
- Tap on Proof of Registration
- Click on the View details button
- Enter the year/term
- Tap to Generate
To Print your Proof of Registration,
- Access your Wits Email address
- Open the attachment
- Tap on the “Print” button or Save it as a PDF
Important
- The Biographical Questionnaire is completed by first-year undergraduate students. Wits Student Portal
- Apply for Clubs and Societies or Parking on the Student Self-Service Portal to complete the online registration process. Log off.
- At the start of the academic year, please pick up or renew your student card and parking permit (if necessary) after registering.
